Sexual Assault Allegation Against Kokrajhar Shop Owner Triggers Protest, Vandalism

Tension prevailed in Assam’s Kokrajhar town on Monday after a woman employee accused the owner of a clothing and accessories store of sexually assaulting her, triggering protests that culminated in vandalism at the establishment.

The incident occurred at Little Sarojini Nagar, a clothing and fashion accessories store located in Kadamtola. According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Amratanch Rajtogi, a businessman from Rajasthan, had allegedly been sexually abusing the woman employee over a prolonged period.

Following the allegations, local residents and members of various organisations staged a protest outside the store, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. The demonstration later turned violent, with some protesters allegedly vandalising the shop, damaging merchandise and throwing clothes and accessories onto the street.

The victim lodged a formal complaint at Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station, accusing Rajtogi of sexual assault.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the allegations. The accused is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the town, with protesters demanding swift police action and justice for the victim. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the progress of the investigation.
