Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has authorised the Guwahati district administration to allow restaurants to remain open until 3:30 am on July 15, 16, 19 and 20, enabling football fans to watch the FIFA World Cup semi-finals and final without disruption.
Announcing the decision in a post on X, the Chief Minister said football has a unique ability to bring people together and that the extended operating hours have been approved to ensure enthusiasts can enjoy the high-profile matches with greater convenience.
Sarma also empowered district administrations across the state to grant similar relaxations in their respective areas, provided requests are received from Restaurant Owners Associations and there is adequate public demand for the extended timings.
The Chief Minister appealed to football lovers to celebrate the occasion responsibly while making use of the extended restaurant hours during the FIFA World Cup knockout fixtures.
