Dibrugarh Police seized 1.35 kg of heroin, Rs 14.06 lakh in cash and two vehicles during an anti-narcotics operation conducted under the jurisdiction of Tingkhong Police Station in Naharkatia, marking a major breakthrough against drug trafficking.
The operation led to the arrest of one person. Police said the seized heroin, suspected to have been intended for illegal trafficking, was taken into custody along with the cash and the two vehicles.
Sharing the development on X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the successful operation had dealt another significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region and reiterated the government’s commitment to its anti-drug campaign.
The chief minister said Assam’s fight against narcotics would continue relentlessly, with police intensifying efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the state.
Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to identify others connected to the trafficking network.
