The Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday continued its Budget Session with discussions centred on healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure, as members deliberated on a range of public welfare issues affecting different parts of the state.
The day’s proceedings commenced with the Question Hour, followed by a Calling Attention motion under Rule 54 moved by MLA Bhupen Roy, who sought the Chief Minister’s intervention on a matter of public importance.
Several legislators also raised Special Mentions under Rule 301, drawing attention to sector-specific concerns and regional development issues. MLA Zubair Anam Mazumder called for the establishment of an Assam Arecanut Board to provide institutional support to arecanut cultivators and promote the growth of the sector.
MLA Paniram Brahma highlighted issues concerning farmers’ welfare and urged the government to strengthen agricultural support measures, while MLA Sanjoy Kishan raised concerns regarding road construction and infrastructure projects being executed by the Public Works Department (PWD).
The Assembly later took up a discussion under Rule 50 initiated by MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar on improving healthcare facilities for patients suffering from serious illnesses. The debate focused on enhancing the state’s healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to specialised medical treatment across Assam.
The Budget Session continued with deliberations on several matters of public importance, reflecting the Assembly’s emphasis on governance, public welfare, agricultural development and infrastructure improvement.
