Flood conditions remained critical across Assam on Monday, with more than 4.45 lakh people affected in six districts, according to the latest Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) report issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The report, released at 8 pm on July 27, stated that floodwaters continue to affect Sivasagar, Golaghat, Charaideo, Jorhat, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metropolitan) districts. Although the floods have caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and agricultural land, no human fatalities have been reported so far.
According to the ASDMA, 631 villages across 21 revenue circles remain inundated. Charaideo is the worst-hit district, with nearly 1.88 lakh people affected, followed by Sivasagar, where around 1.44 lakh residents continue to face the impact of flooding.
The floods have severely affected the agricultural sector, with 37,139.52 hectares of cropland submerged. Livestock losses have also been substantial, with more than 2.56 lakh animals affected and over 26,000 reportedly washed away.
Among the state’s major rivers, the Dhansiri (South) at Numaligarh continues to flow above the danger level, although no river has crossed its highest flood level (HFL).
Relief and rescue operations are continuing across the affected districts. The administration is operating 184 relief camps and relief distribution centres, where 28,695 people are currently taking shelter. The displaced population includes 97 pregnant or lactating women and 42 persons with disabilities.
Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the local administration are continuing evacuation efforts using 67 boats in flood-hit areas.
The floods have also damaged key infrastructure. Several road stretches in Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo have either been submerged or eroded by floodwaters, affecting connectivity. Authorities reported that 171 houses have been completely destroyed, while another 4,667 have sustained partial damage. Several primary schools in Sivasagar and Jorhat have also suffered flooding and structural damage.
Urban flooding has been reported from the Chandmari area under the Dispur revenue circle in Kamrup (Metropolitan), though no displacement of residents has been recorded there.
The state government is continuing to distribute relief materials, including rice, dal and salt, particularly in the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar and Golaghat, while closely monitoring the evolving flood situation.
Meanwhile, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Assam president Ahmad Ali Ayyubi said the flood situation remains serious and claimed that relief materials have been distributed to around 2,400 affected families so far. He also stated that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are monitoring the situation and that the state government has ensured the availability of ration supplies for affected residents.
