Imphal, July 31: Manipur Police and security forces arrested two active cadres of banned insurgent organisations and a suspected drug trafficker in three separate operations conducted across the state over two days, officials said.
In one operation carried out on July 30, police arrested Mangkhom Keshokumar Singh (45), alias Ibungo, an active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), from the vicinity of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district. A resident of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai in Imphal East district, he was allegedly involved in extortion activities.
In another operation on the same day, security forces intercepted a white Bolero bearing registration number NL07CC-2510 at the T-Khullen check post under Senapati Police Station in Senapati district. The vehicle’s occupant, Alal Uddin (33), a resident of Morigaon district in Assam, was arrested after personnel recovered 1.120 kg of suspected heroin along with ₹5,000 in cash from his possession.
Earlier, on July 29, security forces apprehended Leishangthem Lamnganba Singh (23), also known as Nungsiba alias Naoba, an active cadre of the banned KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), from his residence at Thangmeiband Polem Leikai under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district.
Police said investigations are continuing in all three cases to ascertain further links and gather additional evidence.
