Guwahati, July 31: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that Aadhaar-seeded payments under the state’s flagship Orunodoi scheme will resume from August 1, enabling 37.1 lakh women to receive financial assistance directly in their bank accounts.
Sharing the announcement, Sarma said the government would restart Aadhaar-linked transfers under the scheme from the beginning of August. He stated that 37.1 lakh women across the state would receive ₹1,250 each as part of the monthly benefit.
The Chief Minister also announced enhanced assistance for beneficiaries in flood-hit districts. Women in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat will receive ₹2,500 this month to support recovery and rehabilitation following the recent floods. He added that Orunodoi Sahayaks would be deployed to assist beneficiaries who require help in accessing the scheme.
Describing August as an important month for Assam, Sarma said several welfare programmes would be rolled out in the coming weeks. The announcement followed a video conference with Deputy Commissioners from across the state, during which he reviewed the implementation of key government initiatives.
He said the distribution of application forms for the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes would begin in the first week of August. According to the Chief Minister, the government aims to provide financial assistance exceeding ₹300 crore to more than five lakh students in October to support their education.
Sarma also announced the revival of the state’s subsidised ration scheme from August 10. Under the programme, over 70 lakh beneficiaries will receive free foodgrains along with one kilogram each of masur dal and sugar on payment of ₹100 per ration card.
The Chief Minister directed district administrations to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are covered under welfare schemes and that the delivery of benefits takes place without delay.
Introduced in 2020, the Orunodoi scheme is the Assam government’s flagship direct benefit transfer programme, under which monthly financial assistance is provided to low-income households, with women designated as the primary beneficiaries.
