Heavy rainfall lashed Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Thursday afternoon, triggering flash floods and extensive waterlogging that submerged large parts of the district headquarters town and disrupted daily life. Officials confirmed that no casualties had been reported.
Hours of intense rainfall led to the rapid accumulation of floodwater across several localities, with Tuibong among the worst-affected areas. Knee-deep water inundated several stretches, leaving roads resembling streams and making movement difficult for residents while slowing traffic across the town.
According to officials, the flooding was caused by the heavy downpour and worsened by an inadequate drainage network that was unable to discharge rainwater efficiently.
The rising water entered numerous homes, damaging household belongings and leaving many families to contend with waterlogged living conditions. Several roads remained submerged for hours, disrupting transport and routine activities, while dozens of vehicles parked within residential premises were partially submerged as water levels continued to rise.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and assessing the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, residents in low-lying areas continue to grapple with the impact of the flash floods as water recedes from affected neighbourhoods.
