GUWAHATI, August 1: Assam Police on August 1 seized a large consignment of narcotics, including 50,000 Yaba tablets and heroin, during an operation in Amingaon under Kamrup district and arrested three persons from Manipur in connection with the case.
Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted a Tata Nexon (AS 11-AA-6800) in Amingaon. The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Kamrup, Kalyan Kumar Pathak.
The arrested individuals were identified as Kh Tabish (24) and Thekcham Avinash Singh (41), both residents of Thoubal district, and Nongmaithem Biswajit (38) of Imphal West district.
During a detailed search of the vehicle, police recovered 50,000 Yaba tablets containing methamphetamine, weighing around 5 kg without packaging. The contraband had allegedly been concealed inside specially designed secret compartments within the vehicle.
The police team also recovered five soap boxes containing approximately 67.5 grams of heroin, excluding packaging.
According to officials, the seized narcotics have an estimated street value of around Rs 12.5 crore, while the CID has valued the contraband at approximately Rs 7.5 crore.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the three accused and launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the narcotics and identify their intended destination.
Officials described the seizure as a significant breakthrough in Assam Police’s continuing campaign against drug trafficking and efforts to curb the movement of narcotics into the Lower Assam region.
