Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir has urged the Centre to strengthen infrastructure and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie, Peren district, seeking support for a series of projects aimed at modernising the institution and improving animal healthcare services across Nagaland.
Raising the matter during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Jamir called on the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to enhance investment in veterinary education and livestock healthcare infrastructure in the state.
The parliamentarian sought the establishment of a state-of-the-art Veterinary Clinical Complex, the upgradation of veterinary laboratory diagnostic facilities, and the introduction of veterinary telemedicine and mobile animal health services.
Jamir said the proposed initiatives would significantly strengthen veterinary education while expanding access to quality animal healthcare in remote and rural areas. He added that improved clinical and diagnostic infrastructure would support livestock development and enable more effective delivery of veterinary services throughout the region.
Highlighting the institution’s growing academic standing, the MP noted that the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie attracts students from different parts of the country. He expressed confidence that the proposed infrastructure improvements could help transform the institution into one of India’s leading centres for veterinary education.
Jamir also stressed the broader economic importance of strengthening veterinary education, stating that enhanced institutional capacity would contribute to increased livestock productivity, improved food security and greater employment opportunities, particularly in rural communities.
Urging the Union government to give priority to the proposals, he said investment in veterinary education and animal healthcare infrastructure was essential for the sustainable growth of Nagaland’s livestock sector and the overall development of the rural economy.
