GUWAHATI, Aug 5: The Titabar Zila Sakha of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha distributed relief materials to nearly 200 flood-affected families in Nepali Khuti and Bihubor Majgaon in Sivasagar district, where recent floods destroyed homes and livelihoods.
Led by Titabar Zila Sakha president Sushil Gogoi and secretary Prachurjya Pratim Borah, the team provided 28 essential household items to each family, including utensils, buckets, soap, detergent, sanitary napkins, candles, rice, dry food, drinking water and vegetables.
The relief drive was supported by Sanjiv Borah, Mukhya Senadhinayak of the Sangha’s Kendriya Sewa Bahini, along with volunteers, devotees and members of various Sangha units. Senior journalist and writer Prosenjit Rajkhowa and other media personnel also participated in the programme.
Despite unhygienic conditions caused by stagnant floodwater and decaying animal carcasses, the volunteers visited the affected villages to distribute relief and offer moral support to the victims.
Speaking on the occasion, Sushil Gogoi and Prachurjya Pratim Borah said serving humanity was the Sangha’s highest duty and urged society to stand united with flood-affected people during the crisis.
Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance, stating that the relief materials and the volunteers’ presence gave them hope as they began rebuilding their lives.
The Sangha said it has consistently carried out relief work during natural disasters over the years, continuing its humanitarian service across Assam.
