GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday criticised an overseas fundraising campaign launched in London for the state’s flood victims, saying Assam did not need to seek flood relief from the United Kingdom or the United States.
Reacting to the initiative undertaken by Assamese actor and Kathak dancer Meghranjani Medhi in the British capital, the Chief Minister said there was no necessity to raise funds for Assam’s flood relief efforts abroad.
“There is no need to seek flood relief for Assam from London or the United States,” Sarma said while commenting on the campaign.
His remarks came in response to Medhi’s street fundraising drive in London aimed at collecting financial assistance for people affected by the recent floods in Assam.
