Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota chaired a high-level review meeting with the district administrations of Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Golaghat to assess the progress of flood relief measures and expedite rehabilitation and livelihood restoration efforts in the flood-affected districts.
The District Consultative Committee (DCC) meeting, held through video conference, brought together district commissioners, representatives of banks, insurance companies and various line departments to strengthen coordination on damage assessment, financial assistance and the settlement of insurance claims.
Emphasising the need for a coordinated multi-agency response, Kota called for stronger institutional coordination, regular monitoring and the timely delivery of assistance to people affected by the floods.
The meeting reviewed the process of verifying losses in sectors including agriculture, livestock, fisheries, housing, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and allied activities. Officials were instructed to complete authenticated, technology-enabled damage assessments with field-level verification by August 14, while sector-wise reports are to be submitted before the respective committees by August 18.
To improve the efficiency of relief operations, insurance nodal officers have been appointed for Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Golaghat. Dedicated review mechanisms have also been established to monitor progress and address operational bottlenecks.
Recognising that many flood-affected families have lost important documents, the Chief Secretary directed authorities to simplify documentation procedures and permit alternative methods of verification wherever original records have been damaged or destroyed.
Banks were advised to proactively reach out to affected borrowers over the next two weeks and extend relief measures, including loan moratoriums, loan restructuring, fresh credit support and consumption loans to help families meet immediate financial needs.
Insurance companies were instructed to activate dedicated helplines and expedite claim settlements in close coordination with district administrations and financial institutions.
The state government said the measures are aimed at ensuring relief and rehabilitation are implemented with compassion, efficiency and accountability so that affected families receive timely assistance and are able to rebuild their lives and livelihoods with dignity.
