Itanagar, Aug 7: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has denied reports of a Chinese incursion in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district, asserting that Indian Army personnel deployed along the border are effectively safeguarding the territory.
Reacting to claims of an India-China face-off in the strategically sensitive region, Khandu said there was no reason to believe that any Chinese incursion had taken place.
He said the Indian Army personnel stationed in the border area had been maintaining the territory effectively and that the reports did not indicate that an incursion had occurred.
However, the Chief Minister said the concerns raised by residents of the remote border area should not be overlooked and needed to be verified on the ground. He said representatives of tribal communities from Taksing Circle had been invited to share their concerns and provide details of what they believed had happened.
Khandu said the state government would conduct a ground-level assessment to establish the facts surrounding the reported incident.
The development comes amid concerns expressed by villagers over alleged Chinese movement and a possible India-China face-off in the area. Taksing, located in Upper Subansiri district near the Line of Actual Control, holds strategic importance because of its proximity to the international border.
The proposed ground survey is expected to provide greater clarity on the situation and establish whether any border-related incident took place in the area.
