Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to Play Until 2027 World Cup

Sports Desk: Australia’s explosive batter Travis Head believes that Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are far from done with One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and could continue playing until the 2027 World Cup, despite growing speculation about their future in the format.

Speaking ahead of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia, beginning Sunday in Perth, Head praised the duo as “two of the best white-ball players” the game has ever seen. His remarks came amid talk that the tour might be a symbolic farewell for Rohit and Kohli, after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) handed the ODI captaincy to Shubman Gill for the series.

“They have been awesome for India… Virat is probably the greatest white-ball player, and Rohit is not far behind,” Head said at a press interaction, standing alongside Indian all-rounder Axar Patel. “I’m sure they’ll be missed at some stage, but I think they both are going until 2027. It’s great for the game that they are still playing.”

Backing his senior teammates, Axar Patel said both Rohit and Kohli remain in peak physical and mental shape. “They are world-class players and complete professionals. They’ve been training hard, passed their fitness tests, and are raring to go,” Axar affirmed.
