Fresh landslides disrupt traffic at Burhapahar in Nagaon

NAGAON, Aug. 8: Fresh landslides were reported at Burhapahar in Assam’s Nagaon district on Saturday morning following continuous heavy rainfall, disrupting vehicular movement along a key stretch of the national highway.

Rocks and mud slid down the hillside at five locations after incessant rain since the early hours, partially blocking the carriageway and causing inconvenience to commuters.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD) reached the affected locations and began clearance operations. Workers were removing the debris to restore normal traffic movement.

The situation was further complicated after a truck reportedly met with an accident at one of the landslide-affected locations during the clearance operation. No casualties were reported.

Authorities advised commuters to exercise caution while travelling through the affected stretch amid continuing adverse weather conditions. Officials also warned of possible further landslides in vulnerable areas if rainfall persisted.
