UDALGURI-SONITPUR, Aug 9: A children’s play titled ‘Joy Zubeen Da’ will be staged on September 19 to commemorate the first death anniversary of popular Assamese artist Zubeen Garg. The theatre stage for the production will be inaugurated by Zubeen Garg’s brother, Arun Garg.
The decision was taken at an extended general meeting of the Rakhashmari branch of Banyam Sanskritik Khyetra, held at Rakhashmari in Dhekiajuli on Saturday. The meeting was presided over by Ashutosh Das, president of the Sonitpur district committee of the All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation.
The purpose of the meeting was explained by Rakhashmari branch president Amiyo Sasoni. Central committee president Sanjoy Baruah presented the report of the branch’s first general meeting, while central committee secretary Dolly Das spoke about research, preservation and promotion of the folk culture of the Rakhashmari region. Bablu Ansari and Monmayuri Das discussed various aspects of organisational cooperation.
Rakhashmari branch secretary Riya Bhawal, assistant secretary Bonjit Nath, West Dhekiajuli Regional Committee of the All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation general secretary Sanjoy Hur, along with Ashutosh Das, Sushma Dwip, Manoj Tanti, Shankar Das and Ahid Alam, attended the meeting and extended their support to the organisation’s programmes.
Representatives of Banyam Sanskritik Khyetra later held a press conference with local journalists, outlining the organisation’s forthcoming programmes and plans.
