Rupohihat Police seized seven cattle during a raid at Rupohi New Market in Assam’s Nagaon district as part of a crackdown on suspected cattle smuggling.
The cattle were reportedly recovered from the residence of a butcher identified as Hussain Ali. Police said the suspect fled the location after learning about the raid.
The seizure comes amid increased reports of alleged cattle-smuggling activities across Assam, prompting police and enforcement agencies to intensify operations in several districts.
In the latest case, the seized cattle were taken into police custody, while an investigation was launched to determine their source, intended destination and whether others were involved in the suspected network.
Authorities are also examining whether the transportation of the cattle violated existing laws and regulations. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
