18 Assam Personnel Receive President’s Police, Fire and Civil Defence Medals

Guwahati, August 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday congratulated 18 personnel from the Assam Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guards and Civil Defence who were honoured with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and Medal for Meritorious Service on the eve of Independence Day.

Inspector General Devjyoti Mukherjee received the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

The Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded to 15 Assam Police personnel, two personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services and one from Home Guards and Civil Defence.

Among the police awardees were Inspector General V Siva Prasad Ganjala, Assistant Inspector General Sarmistha Barua, Commandant Santanu Kumar Dutta, Superintendents of Police Amitav Basumatary, Subhashish Baruah and Suman Chakraborty, Deputy Superintendent of Police Aker Ali, Lance Naiks Ripon Paul, Nanda Tripura and Surajit Mozumder, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Prabin Baro, among others listed in the official felicitation.

Leading Fireman Lohit Saikia and Sub Officer Md Shah Alam Sikdar received the medals from the Fire and Emergency Services, while Home Guard and Civil Defence Platoon Commander Abiram Islary was also honoured.

Sarma congratulated all the awardees and praised their dedication and service, saying the honours recognised their contribution to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Assam.
