Ri-Bhoi, August 15: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on Saturday with a series of patriotic activities at its campus.
The celebration was held at the D D Lapang Block in the presence of Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma, Director of Medical Administration Prof Dr AC Kataki, principals, deans, faculty members, staff and students.
The programme featured a commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram, followed by the hoisting of the Tricolour, the National Anthem and an oath-taking ceremony. Addressing the gathering, Hoque reflected on India’s journey since Independence and emphasised the role of young people in shaping the country’s future.
The celebrations highlighted the theme of “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat @2047”, focusing on the contribution of youth to national development. Representatives of Brahma Kumaris also led the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, reaffirming the university’s commitment to promoting a healthy and responsible youth population.
Students participated in a Flag March, patriotic performances and a Tricolour Balloon Release. The programme also included recreational games and the final match of the Inter-Departmental Football Tournament.
The celebrations concluded with a collective commitment to contributing towards a stronger and progressive India by 2047.
