Man Accused of Threatening Assam CM Remanded to 5-Day Police Custody

Abdul Mutaleb, arrested for allegedly threatening to kill Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a social media live broadcast, has been remanded to five days of police custody.

Mutaleb was produced before a court on Sunday after Assam Police arrested him from Bhuragaon in Morigaon district. He allegedly posted a comment offering to kill Sarma for Rs 1 crore, along with the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad” and a phone number.

The alleged threat appeared on Sarma’s Facebook page while Independence Day celebrations in Guwahati were being streamed live on Saturday. The comment reportedly also contained objectionable remarks against the Chief Minister.

Police traced the social media account and arrested Mutaleb following the incident. Investigators will question him about the post, the alleged threat and the motive behind it as part of the ongoing probe.
