Manipur forces arrest suspected insurgents, seize heroin, opium and arms in operations

Security forces and Manipur Police arrested several suspected insurgents and drug traffickers and seized suspected heroin, raw opium, firearms and ammunition during operations across the state between August 11 and 15.

On August 14, a joint team of Churachandpur Police and 37 Assam Rifles arrested 26-year-old Nemneihoi Touthang from Tuibong after recovering 197 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing around 2.6 kg.

The same day, an intelligence-based operation by Imphal East Police and the CRPF in Khergao Awang Sabal Leikai led to the arrest of five people. The operation resulted in the seizure of 1.015 kg of raw opium, a Hyundai Eon car, a TVS Jupiter scooter and four mobile phones.

Manipur Police also arrested alleged RPF/PLA member Adhikarimayum Sarita Devi, 39, from her residence in Imphal West on August 11. On August 14, police apprehended alleged People’s Democratic Alliance cadre Md Amirkhan, 44, from Kshetrigao in Imphal East in connection with an alleged extortion case.

In a separate operation on August 15, Tengnoupal District Police and 21 Assam Rifles recovered an INSAS Ex-Calibre rifle, two INSAS rifles, three INSAS LMG magazines and five rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition during a cordon-and-search operation in Senam village.

The operations were part of intensified security and anti-narcotics efforts across Manipur, with authorities continuing intelligence-led searches in vulnerable areas.
