The Assam government held ‘Swasthya Chintan Shivir 2026’ at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara on Tuesday, bringing senior officials and healthcare institutions together to discuss measures to improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The day-long programme, organised jointly by the Health and Family Welfare Department and the Medical Education and Research Department, focused on healthcare delivery, medical education, research and innovation.
Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research Minister Ashok Singhal stressed the need to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, improve medical education and research, and expand the use of modern technology.
Discussions covered digital transformation, artificial intelligence in healthcare, academic excellence, financial sustainability and institutional performance. Participants also reviewed maternal, newborn and child health services, with emphasis on strengthening district-level care, referral systems and continuity of treatment.
The performance of districts and hospitals was assessed, with discussions on emergency medical services, patient experience, accountability and timely implementation of health programmes. Representatives of medical colleges, hospitals and dental colleges also shared their performance and initiatives.
The Shivir examined administrative and financial issues, including procurement, medicines and medical supplies, equipment maintenance and distribution systems. Hospital administration, governance, quality accreditation and patient safety were also discussed.
The Atal Amrit Abhiyan Society, Assam State AIDS Control Society and Directorate of AYUSH made presentations during the programme. Senior health officials, medical college principals, Joint Directors of Health Services and other departmental officials attended the event.
The concluding session was addressed by Singhal. The programme sought to bring stakeholders together to identify challenges, exchange experiences and set priorities for strengthening healthcare services in Assam.
