Padma Shri awardee and noted weaver Hemoprova Chutia met AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal at his residence in Hojai and said the visit was purely personal and had no political motive.
Chutia, known for weaving religious scriptures and other works on handlooms, presented Ajmal with a handwoven textile featuring the National Anthem during the meeting.
The visit came amid criticism of Ajmal over his flood relief activities in Upper Assam. Clarifying the purpose of the meeting, Chutia said she had visited Ajmal for a personal reason and that the meeting was unrelated to politics or any issue that could harm society or the community.
Chutia also praised Ajmal for his relief efforts in flood-affected areas of Upper Assam. She said that despite his age and poor health, he had travelled to affected areas and personally distributed relief materials.
She said Ajmal should be appreciated for helping flood victims and urged people not to create unnecessary controversy around efforts aimed at helping society.
