Kokrajhar, August 20: Assam Police seized around 18,500 packets of foreign-made cigarettes concealed beneath a consignment of bamboo in a six-wheeled container truck at Srirampur in Kokrajhar district.
The truck was intercepted during intensified checking of vehicles travelling towards West Bengal. During the search, police found the cigarettes hidden inside the vehicle beneath the bamboo.
The driver and another person travelling in the truck were detained and questioned to establish the source and intended destination of the consignment.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the cigarettes and identify others who may be involved.
