Guwahati: Marking one month since the passing of legendary singer Zubeen Garg, his wife Garima Saikia Garg, along with family members, visited Zonali Studio — a place deeply cherished by the late artist. Speaking to the media, Garima shared that Zubeen often chose to spend his time at the studio rather than at home, drawn by its serenity and connection to nature.
“He didn’t like staying in the flat; that’s why he often came here. He loved this place amid nature. There are many birds he used to feed, and they still come here. He had his pets here as well, which is why we chose this place for the ceremony,” Garima said. She added that while other rituals were held in Kahilipara, the family planned to visit Sonapur later in the evening to continue the remembrance ceremonies.
Reflecting on the ongoing investigation into Zubeen’s untimely death, Garima expressed faith in the legal process. “I still believe that justice will be served and everything will be conducted in a straight and transparent manner. If we don’t have faith in justice and in our law, how will we ever get it? We don’t know the law fully, so we keep calm and patiently wait for the truth,” she stated.
Addressing the delay in the probe, she added, “We were informed that it would take three months to submit the chargesheet, but we want the truth as soon as possible. The waiting is very difficult. People across Assam are asking what really happened to Zubeen, and I feel the same.”
Across Assam, people have been paying heartfelt tributes to the late icon — lighting diyas, offering prayers, and performing Naam-Prasanga in his memory. At Zonali Studio, Vedic rituals were held throughout the day to mark the solemn occasion.
Following the ceremonies, Garima Garg and her family will proceed to Sonapur, where Zubeen was cremated, to offer their final prayers and continue the month-long remembrance of the artist who continues to live on through his timeless music and spirit.
