Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has urged a transformative shift in the state’s education system — from traditional rote learning to one that cultivates creativity, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving abilities.
Delivering his address at the valedictory session of the North East Education Conclave 2025, held on Saturday at Pragjyotispur University, Governor Acharya underscored that education must serve as a gateway to innovation and curiosity, not merely as an academic obligation.
“Education must awaken the mind, challenge assumptions, and inspire creativity,” he said, highlighting the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as a forward-looking framework designed to equip students for the evolving global landscape.
Organised to mark Pragjyotispur University’s foundation day, the conclave brought together educationists, policymakers, and academicians from across the Northeast. Discussions focused on creative pedagogies, interdisciplinary learning, and student empowerment, reflecting a shared resolve to reimagine education as a holistic and dynamic process.
Governor Acharya’s address resonated with participants, reinforcing that education should extend beyond textbooks and exams to nurture empathy, imagination, and innovation. He remarked that “a nation that invests in creative education invests in its own future.”
As the event concluded, a collective commitment emerged among stakeholders to implement NEP 2020 in spirit and action, transforming classrooms into spaces where ideas flourish and students evolve into the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
