Jorhat: A suspected sex racket was allegedly busted by local residents at Rodali Path in Bohotia Gaon of Jorhat district on Friday, following reports of suspicious activities at a residential premises. According to reports, residents confronted several young men and women at the location before informing the police. A police team subsequently reached the spot and detained three young women and one young man for questioning. Several other individuals reportedly fled the premises before the arrival of the police.

Authorities are now investigating whether an organised prostitution network was operating from the area. Police are expected to question the detained individuals and local witnesses while examining evidence collected from the site before deciding on further legal action. The latest incident has raised concerns about possible organised illegal activities operating from residential or commercial premises in Jorhat.
The development comes weeks after another police operation in the district. In June, Jorhat Police conducted a late-night raid at a hotel near National Highway 37 and detained 15 people, including seven women and eight men, following information that the premises were allegedly being used for activities linked to a suspected prostitution network. Police have not yet disclosed further details about the identities of those detained in Friday’s operation or confirmed whether charges have been registered. The investigation remains underway. Authorities are expected to establish the facts of the case before taking further action, while the detained persons are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
