The search for a Class 10 student of St Paul School, Noklak, who was swept away by strong currents in the Lein River at Zunki on August 20, entered its third day on Saturday.
The student, a resident of Noklak Town, had reportedly gone to the river with four friends and entered the water to take a bath before being swept away by the strong current.
A joint search and rescue operation was launched soon after the incident and involved village authorities, Village Guards, local residents from Noklak Town and neighbouring villages, police, the district administration and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Locals said rescue teams continued the search during the day and night despite strong currents, debris and fallen trees in the river.
Noklak district, which borders Myanmar, has been receiving continuous rainfall, resulting in rising water levels in the Lein and other rivers in the area.
The search operation remained underway till the filing of this report. Further details are awaited.
