Missamari: The Sonai Rupai Youth and Nature Welfare Society, a non-governmental voluntary organisation focused on youth empowerment and nature conservation, was formed at Missamari in Sonitpur district on August 22.
A seven-member executive committee was constituted during a general body meeting attended by 21 members. Jinta Deka was appointed president and Rakesh Medhi general secretary.
The organisation will engage youths in social welfare activities and undertake programmes for the conservation of the local environment, forests and biodiversity.
It also plans to promote the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Sonai Rupai region, strengthen its eco-tourism potential and support the economic and social development of the area through local tourism.
The society will also assist underprivileged sections, organise youth development and empowerment programmes and participate in public welfare activities.
Local residents and intellectuals expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to positive changes in the region through nature conservation, youth empowerment and social service.
