Assam’s community-led conservation efforts helped rescue an injured Tricarinate Hill Turtle that was swept away by floodwaters, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
In a post on X, Sarma said the turtle was rescued from the Brahmaputra, treated for its injuries and later released safely into a freshwater habitat.
He highlighted the role of local communities in protecting native wildlife, particularly during floods when animals can be displaced from their natural habitats.
The Tricarinate Hill Turtle is a freshwater species found across parts of South and Southeast Asia.
