Nagaon: Amid allegations that some pharmacies in Nagaon are playing with patients’ lives by selling expired medicines, the Drug Control Department of the state government launched a large-scale operation in Nagaon town and its adjoining areas today here. As per reports, nultiple teams from the department conducted raids targeting expired drugs, fake medicines, and pharmacies operating without valid licenses. Inspectors from the Drug Control offices of Nagaon, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Karbi Anglong, Kamrup Metro, Hojai and several other districts took part in the drive. The raiding teams were divided into four groups and inspected several retail and wholesale medicine establishments across Nagaon town for license violations, expired drugs, and spurious medicines.

During the raid at ISHRA Pharmacy near Elphinstone Chariali in Nagaon town, the team detected several irregularities and found expired medicines on the premises. Officials also discovered that the pharmacy’s license had expired long ago and had not been renewed for a long time. The team sealed the pharmacy and initiated necessary departmental action. The team also carried out inspections at multiple pharmacies in front of Nagaon Bhogeswari Phukonani Civil Hospital. Expired medicines were recovered from Bakul Pharmacy and two other pharmacies.
The Nagaon Drug Control Department said it has issued immediate notices to the concerned establishments and will take further departmental action. As part of the drive, the team also conducted a raid at Ayush Drug Distributors in Haibargaon area and collected samples of medicines for testing. Officials stated that such operations will continue to ensure that patients receive safe and genuine medicines and to curb illegal practices in the pharmaceutical trade.
