Two Killed, Two Injured in Armed Attack on Kuki Village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi

Two villagers were killed and two others sustained bullet injuries after suspected cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K allegedly attacked N Teikhang Kuki village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday morning, August 31, local sources said.

The incident occurred at around 9.30 am under the T Waichong sub-division, where armed assailants allegedly opened fire on villagers and set several houses ablaze.

The deceased were identified as Lamtinthang, who was reportedly shot dead, and Neichin, wife of Tongpao. Seilun sustained a bullet injury to his thigh, while another woman, Nemneichong, was also injured in the firing.

According to local accounts, Lamtinthang was Seilun’s son. Several houses were reportedly torched during the attack, forcing residents to flee amid the gunfire.

The incident has heightened concerns over the security of civilian settlements in the Twilang belt along the IT Road, where repeated incidents of firing and attacks have been reported in recent weeks. Residents have also faced disruptions to movement and access to essential commodities and healthcare amid the continuing violence.
