Three members of a family were killed after a landslide struck their residence in Mathgharia, Guwahati, amid incessant rainfall on Tuesday, according to reports.
The deceased were identified as Nagen Rajbongshi, Meena Rajbongshi and Chunu Rajbongshi. The family’s daughter was also among those killed, while their son was trapped under the debris but was rescued alive.
Rescue personnel and local authorities responded to the incident and worked to clear the debris. The landslide occurred as continuous heavy rain increased the risk of such incidents in vulnerable areas.
The rainfall also triggered severe artificial flooding across several parts of Guwahati, disrupting normal life and affecting traffic. Several roads were waterlogged, with the Narengi-Six Mile VIP Road among the worst affected. Knee-deep water was reported on stretches between Barbari and Six Mile.
Chandmari, Panjabari and Beltola Survey also reported significant waterlogging, affecting pedestrian and vehicular movement.
