Distinguished social worker and retired Assam Police officer Tapan Bora died at his residence in Dhekiajuli on September 6, 2026, at around 9.45 am. He was 61.
Born on December 29, 1964, Bora joined the Assam Police on January 29, 1982, and served for several decades in the Special Branch before retiring on January 29, 2024.
Alongside his police career, Bora remained actively involved in social, religious and cultural activities. He served as president of the Krishnanagar Namghar Construction Committee and working president of the Chaidhyachuburi Raas Mandir Committee.
His death cast a pall of grief over Krishnanagar and the wider Dhekiajuli area. Various individuals and organisations expressed condolences and conveyed sympathy to his bereaved family.
Those who mourned his death included the Rupjyoti Regional Bihuwa Dal, environmental organisation Seuj Society, Banyam Cultural Khyetra, Krishti Sarathi Cultural Group, Dhekiajuli Sub-District Digital Media Council, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad chief adviser Rana Pratap Baruah and Dhekiajuli Sahitya Sabha secretary Kalpajyoti Nath, among others.
Bora is survived by his wife, children and other family members.
