ITANAGAR, Sept 7: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged students, youth and residents of Changlang to maintain peace and follow the prescribed rules for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Speaking during an interaction, Khandu said the SIR was being conducted in the state after nearly two decades and that the rules clearly specified the documents required from applicants and their parents and the procedure for submitting them.
“The rules are very clear,” Khandu said, adding that those meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria would be considered eligible. He appealed to committees and student bodies not to attempt to influence the process and urged people to report any deviation through written complaints to the appropriate authorities.
His appeal followed violence in Changlang in which several people were injured. He urged students, youth and residents to abide by the law and maintain peace while the revision process continued.
Khandu also said he had recently met representatives of the Na (Nga) and Mara communities in Taksing to hear their concerns and suggestions regarding developments along the India-China border. He said he subsequently raised the issues with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and submitted a ground report and proposals for strengthening border infrastructure.
Khandu said the Centre was expected to provide the required infrastructure support to border areas.
He also outlined Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan’s upcoming two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh, his first to the state as Vice-President. Radhakrishnan is scheduled to attend programmes showcasing the state’s tribal and local cultures and address a special session on September 9.
