IMPHAL, Sept 8: Manipur Police have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged killing of a man from Assam outside Axis Bank at Thangal Bazar in Imphal on Monday night.
The victim, a resident of Borojalenga village in Silchar, Assam, was reportedly staying at Thangal Bazar. Police said he was allegedly killed by having his neck slashed with a machete on September 7.
Following the incident, City Police Station registered an FIR and launched an investigation to identify those involved and establish the motive.
The arrested accused were identified as Yendrembam Paona Singh, 60, and Laishram Ngongo Meitei, 39, both residents of Kanglasiphai Makha Leikai.
According to police, Paona Singh allegedly confessed to the crime and said he attacked the victim in revenge following a fallout over alleged dealings involving contraband ganja. Police said he had travelled to Thangal Bazar with the alleged intention of killing the victim.
Police seized blood-stained clothes allegedly worn by Paona Singh and recovered a two-wheeler reportedly used to reach the crime scene. Efforts were underway to recover the machete allegedly used in the killing.
Further investigation was underway.
