Turtle Rescued From Flood-Hit Area in Nagaon

NAGAON, Sept 8: A turtle was rescued from East Singimari in Rupahihat, Nagaon district, early Tuesday after it was spotted entering a residential area amid rising floodwaters.

Local residents suspected that the turtle had moved into the inhabited area due to artificial floodwaters surrounding the locality. A resident spotted the animal while stepping out of his house and alerted others before they contacted the Singimari Forest Department for its rescue.

Residents alleged that forest department personnel took nearly three hours to reach the spot. They kept the turtle safe until officials arrived and subsequently handed it over to the forest department.

The rescue came amid waterlogging and flood-like conditions in parts of the area, which residents believed may have forced the turtle towards human habitation in search of safer ground.
