AGARTALA, Sept 8: Tripura Police seized 194 bottles of banned Eskuf cough syrup, valued at around Rs 1 lakh, and detained two youths from Bihar during a vehicle-checking operation in Khowai district on Tuesday.
Personnel of Mungiakami Police Station conducted routine checks at Naikia Kami Para when they noticed the two youths behaving suspiciously. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the cough syrup from three bags carried by them.
Officer-in-Charge Raju Baidya said the two youths had travelled to Tripura from Bihar by train and got down at Mungiakami railway station before proceeding towards the area where they were intercepted.
Police estimated the market value of the seized cough syrup at around Rs 1 lakh.
A case was registered in connection with the seizure, and the two detained persons were scheduled to be produced before a court on Tuesday.
Further investigation was underway to establish the source and intended destination of the cough syrup and determine whether others were involved in its transportation.
