Sivasagar Police Arrest Alleged Drug Trafficker, Seize 69 Grams of Drugs

SIVASAGAR, September 10: Police arrested Raju Ali, who they alleged had been involved in drug trafficking and other criminal activities for more than a decade, during a late-night operation near the Dikhau embankment close to the cremation ground on September 9.

The operation was conducted near Sadar Police Station and was led by Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Babul Kumar Medhi, City Sub-Inspector Debashish Sharma and Joysagar Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge Nipon Gogoi.

Police said they recovered 69 grams of suspected drugs, Rs 14,500 in cash and a soap box from Ali. They also seized an unregistered R1 motorcycle allegedly in his possession.

A search of a bag carried on the motorcycle reportedly led to the recovery of a pair of scissors, narcotic medicines and other items described by police as objectionable.

The arrest came amid an intensified crackdown on drug-related activities in Sivasagar following directions from the Chief Minister. Police had reportedly detained around 10 other people allegedly linked to the drug trade since Wednesday afternoon, with questioning underway.
