GUWAHATI, Sept 10: Guwahati is set to host British virtual band Gorillaz on January 31, 2027, as part of the group’s first India tour. The concert will be held at Sarusajai Stadium.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development on X, describing it as a proud moment for Guwahati. He said the city was honoured to be among the host cities and looked forward to welcoming the band and fans from across the country to Assam.
Gorillaz, known for its genre-spanning music and animated members 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs, rose to global prominence with its 2001 debut album Gorillaz. The album, featuring the hit “Clint Eastwood”, sold millions of copies worldwide and earned the band a Guinness World Record for Most Successful Virtual Band.
The group’s 2005 album Demon Days topped the UK charts and featured “Feel Good Inc.”, which won a Grammy Award. Gorillaz has since released nine studio albums, with The Mountain being its latest release in 2026.
Guwahati will be the third and final Indian stop on the tour, following Bengaluru on January 23 and Mumbai on January 27. The tour will support The Mountain, which was partly recorded in India and features collaborations with artists including Anoushka Shankar and Asha Bhosle.
The official concert poster incorporates elements of Assamese culture alongside Gorillaz’s distinctive animated aesthetic. Ticket-related updates will be available through District by Zomato.
The announcement has generated anticipation among music fans across the Northeast ahead of what is expected to be a major live music event in the region.
