Guwahati: An official of the Assam Secretariat has been arrested by Garchuk Police for allegedly accepting a bribe in connection with liquor shop licences, according to reports. The arrested official has been identified as Devolina Patowary, an employee of the Housing and Urban Development Department at the Assam Secretariat. According to allegations, Patowary had collected money from several individuals by promising to facilitate liquor shop licences. Several people were reportedly deceived in the process.

Garchuk Police allegedly caught the official while she was accepting a bribe and subsequently took her into custody. Police have launched an investigation into the allegations and are questioning the accused to gather details about the alleged transactions. Investigators are also examining whether other individuals were involved in the alleged liquor licence racket and whether the accused had acted alone or as part of a wider network.
