Four arrested in Dhakuakhana’s businessman murder case

DHAKUAKHANA, Sept 10: Police arrested four people in connection with the murder of local businessman Pawan Jain following a financial dispute involving ₹3–4 lakh, officials said.

The accused were identified as Dhananjay Sahu, his wife, their minor son and an associate, Raju Sahani. Police said the accused had confessed to the crime.

According to the police and the accused’s statements, an argument broke out after Jain returned only ₹30,000 of the disputed amount. The situation escalated and Jain was allegedly struck on the head with a steel water bottle and a flashlight, resulting in his death.

Police said the accused later packed Jain’s body in a sack in an attempt to dispose of it and destroy evidence. Sahu’s wife admitted knowledge of the financial dispute but claimed she was outside the house when the murder took place.

Police registered Case No. 61/26 under Sections 103(1), 238, 307, 61(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Dhananjay Sahu, his wife and Raju Sahani were remanded in three-day police custody for further interrogation, while the minor was sent to a juvenile home in Jorhat.

Police said the investigation was underway to establish further details of the alleged conspiracy.
