Imphal: Manipuri musician and guitarist Chongtham Vikram Singh died from massive internal bleeding caused by blunt-force trauma to his chest and abdomen, according to the autopsy findings reported in connection with his death in South Delhi. Singh, 55, was allegedly assaulted outside his residence in Kilokari late Sunday night after he objected to a group of people creating a disturbance near his home. He was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Okhla by his son, but succumbed to his injuries early Monday. The autopsy reportedly found extensive internal bleeding resulting from blunt trauma, providing further details on the injuries sustained during the alleged assault.

Delhi Police have arrested seven people in connection with the incident and apprehended a minor. The investigation is continuing to establish the exact sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the fatal assault. Singh was a prominent figure in Manipur’s early rock music movement. He began his musical career with the band Ultra Vires and later became the lead guitarist of Phoenix before joining Eastern Dark. He subsequently moved to Delhi, where he worked as a music teacher and continued mentoring young musicians.
His death has triggered grief across Manipur and the Northeast. Family members and community representatives have sought a thorough investigation, while concerns have also been raised about the safety and treatment of people from the Northeast in Delhi. Singh belonged to a distinguished musical family. His mother, Chongtham Kamala, is a renowned Manipuri singer and has been described as a pioneering figure in the region’s music and film industry.
