Hailakandi : Hailakandi district has emerged as the top-performing district in Assam in the house-listing exercise for Census 2027, recording 93.36 per cent completion. The achievement places Hailakandi ahead of other districts in the State in the ongoing preparatory exercise for the next Census. The house-listing phase is a crucial component of the census process, as it involves collecting information on residential structures and households ahead of the population enumeration. The high completion rate reflects the progress made by the district administration and field-level officials in carrying out the exercise within the stipulated timeline. Census personnel have been engaged in visiting households and recording the required information as part of the nationwide preparations.

The Census 2027 exercise is expected to generate updated demographic and socio-economic data that will assist governments in planning and implementing welfare programmes, infrastructure projects and public services. Officials and field workers involved in the Hailakandi exercise have been credited with ensuring substantial coverage of households, helping the district achieve the highest completion rate in Assam so far.
The remaining house-listing work is expected to continue until the targeted coverage is achieved. Authorities are also expected to focus on ensuring that households and residential structures are not left out during the final stages of the exercise. The strong performance by Hailakandi highlights the importance of effective coordination between the district administration, census officials and field personnel in ensuring comprehensive coverage for the upcoming Census.
