Nalbari: Hundreds of Congress workers and supporters staged a massive demonstration at the Barkhetri Block Development Office on Monday, protesting the alleged exclusion of eligible beneficiaries from key welfare schemes, including Orunodoi, Ration Card, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The protest began with a large procession of men and women marching from Rajiv Bhavan to Barkhetri, raising slogans against what they termed as continued negligence and irregularities in the distribution of social welfare benefits.
Barkhetri MLA Diganta Borman, who joined the protest, expressed strong dissatisfaction over the administration’s inaction despite multiple representations. Speaking to reporters, Borman said, “We have repeatedly urged the authorities to include widows, differently-abled persons, and other deserving individuals under these welfare schemes. Unfortunately, our appeals have gone unanswered.”
