Udalguri-Sonitpur, Sept 16: The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was observed at Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Dhekiajuli, by the Science Forum and Eco Club on Wednesday, with speakers highlighting the importance of protecting the ozone layer and measures to safeguard it.
College principal Dr Sukdev Adhikari inaugurated the programme and spoke about ozone layer protection. Resource person Dr Seema Sarkar of the Department of Botany explained the importance of the ozone layer, its effects and measures for its protection.
IQAC coordinator Dr Hariprasad Baruah stressed the need to explain the importance of ozone layer protection in simple language so that the common people could understand and adopt necessary measures.
Faculty members Bikas Nath, Hafijur Rahman, Ramraj Chouhan, Parismita Khanal and Firij Basumatari also made PowerPoint presentations on the ozone layer. The programme began with a bhajan by Subhasis Phani and Prantik Das.
Mrs Shantana Borah delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Eco Club coordinator and Science Forum secretary Dr Premada Kalita.
