Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has welcomed the renewed push for India-China cooperation following the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, highlighting that normalized bilateral relations could deliver critical developmental gains for the frontier state.
Khandu noted that Arunachal Pradesh, which shares an extensive international boundary exceeding 1,200 kilometers with China, stands to benefit substantially from eased tensions through improved regional connectivity, cross-border trade, and people-to-people exchanges. His remarks follow high-level bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 12 on the sidelines of the summit, where both leaders reviewed boundary tranquility, economic partnerships, and broader diplomatic ties.
The Chief Minister’s observations align with the BRICS New Delhi Declaration’s broader commitments toward multilateral connectivity and mutual growth. While lingering boundary disputes persist, India maintains that border stability remains a non-negotiable prerequisite for bilateral progress.
The thaw comes alongside ground-level operational de-escalation, highlighted by the resumption of senior military commander-level flag meetings in the eastern sector, including discussions held at Wacha in Arunachal Pradesh on September 6.
