Assam on Thursday remembered freedom fighters Madan Chandra Barman and Rauta Ram Koch, paying tribute to their sacrifice during the historic Quit India Movement of 1942.
On Remembrance Day, tributes were paid to the two martyrs, whose contributions to Assam’s freedom struggle continue to be remembered. Historical accounts identify both Barman and Koch among the martyrs of the Quit India Movement from the Barpeta region.
Rauta Ram Koch is recorded as having sacrificed his life on September 25, 1942, during the anti-British movement. His martyrdom is remembered as part of the wider participation of people from Barpeta and surrounding areas in the freedom struggle.
The day also recalled the courage and patriotism of Madan Chandra Barman, who, along with Rauta Ram Koch, became part of Assam’s history of sacrifice during the 1942 movement.
Leaders and public representatives who paid tribute on the occasion recalled their courage, patriotism and supreme sacrifice for the nation’s freedom, saying their contribution remained a source of inspiration for generations.
