GANDHIDHAM, Sept 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 26 hit out at Opposition parties over their criticism of the government and dismissed Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of electoral malpractice in Assam.
Speaking to reporters at the DPA Exhibition Ground in Gandhidham, Sarma said Opposition parties had considerable free time as they were in power in only a few regions. He said they were pursuing whatever issues they could find, while the government should remain focused on its work.
Responding to questions about Gandhi’s ‘vote chori’ allegations, Sarma said, “Isn’t he mad? Why are you asking me to comment on a mad person? I consider Rahul Gandhi a mad person.” He said there was no point in commenting further on the Congress leader.
Sarma, who was earlier associated with the Congress before joining the BJP, was in Gandhidham for the foundation stone laying ceremony of a 150-tonne-per-day e-methanol plant at the Deendayal Port Authority.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Sarma jointly laid the foundation stone for the facility, which was being developed as a joint venture between the Deendayal Port Authority and Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited.
Sarma said the facility would contribute to green fuel development and added that Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited, which produces 500 tonnes of methanol per day in Assam, would contribute to the project. He said the plant was expected to be completed within three years.
